Ethylene butyl acrylate (EBA): Flexible & High Thermal Resistant

Ethylene butyl acrylate (EBA) is a low-density polyethylene resin. Propylene is a common compound used in the manufacture of EBA. The compound and its copolymers are extensively used in several end-use industries. Properties associated with EBA such as flexibility, low weight, easy modification, and greater thermal and chemical resistance can increase the scope of its applications.

Usage in Temperature Sensitive Application Can Increase Demand

EBA finds application in heat and pressure sensitive dye. The compound is largely used to produce films and coverings in end use applications including food packaging, agriculture, construction, and form fill seal (FFS) bags. For instance, Lucofin 1400 MN by Lucobite AG, is a copolymer of EBA consisting of ethylene and butyl acrylate with little crystallinity. It is flexible than ethylene homopolymers. It is extensively utilized for polymer modification of butane and asphalt, roto molding processes, and powder coating.  It can be also used for profile and cable extrusion purposes and for the manufacturing of sealing membranes.

In recent developments, DuPont launched an EBA based product called Elvaloy AC. It can be used as processing aid and property enhancer in polyesters while providing ample support for softer foam production. It can be used as a raw material for increasing the low-temperature strength of crystallized polyethylene terephthalate (CPET) trays and refining the characteristics of formability and handling of sheets. It provides better pigment as well as non-halogen filler acceptance in cable jacketing and wires. EBAs are ideal for soft-touch and other healthcare and high-value ergonomic applications.

Market Overview

According to a report made available by Radiant Insights, Inc.; the global ethylene butyl acrylate market (EBA) market is anticipated to exhibit significant demand till 2022. Increasing utilization in several applications such as adhesives, sealants, co-monomers, and surface coatings across end-use industries such as packaging, leather, textile, and plastics can augment market size over the forecast period (2017 to 2022). In addition, rising demand from the petrochemical industry can have positive outlook for the market. Strict government rules about the production and disposal of the compound due to its non-bio-degradable nature is anticipated to hamper market growth.

Some of the key players operating in the market include Jianxin, SNCL, Wilson, and Longsheng.
