Global Electroencephalography Equipment Market Share And Size to 2019

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a technique used to detect electrical activity in the brain using electrodes that are attached to the scalp. Brain cells are active all the time and communicate via electrical impulses, even when individuals are asleep.

These changes in the brain activity are recorded on an EEG as wavy lines, which are useful in the diagnosis of brain disorders. EEG is used as a diagnostic test for chronic brain disorders such as epilepsy, brain tumor, head injury, brain dysfunction, encephalitis, stroke sleep disorders, and dementia.

EEG equipment is also used to confirm brain death in a persistent coma. According to WHO, the worldwide prevalence of epilepsy was estimated to be 50 million in 2014, with approximately 80% of epilepsy patients residing in countries with low and middle income.

Every year, close to 2.4 million people are diagnosed with epilepsy. The use of EEG equipment is also increasing along with continuous EEG monitoring in ICUs and long-term EEG monitoring for epilepsy. The report analysts forecast the global electroencephalography equipment market to grow at a CAGR of 7.34% during 2014-2019.
