The lack of moving parts reduce the risk of mechanical failures of SSDs allowing data transfer at higher speeds. In addition, they are suited for harsh environments and extreme shock and consume less power, thus increasing consistency.
Flash-based SSDs do not require batteries as they use non-volatile flash memory and can retain memory during power failures. This type of SSDs are slower and less expensive. DRAM-based SSDs need an external adapter or power source and use volatile memory. They have high speed and are more expensive.
